As much as I love the power of a composed, quiet visage on the face of my portrait subjects, I really do want to put more smiles on more kids' faces.

The Art of Charity

I've placed an online gallery of imagery created around the world to raise money to help fund the services a very worthwhile organization provides. Voting in this gallery opens today, the first day of Winter, 21 December 2009 and continues through to the first day of Spring, 20 March 2010. Each vote is only $1.00 and every dollar helps. You may cast as many votes as you like for your favorite images.

The proceeds from your votes go to benefit Operation Smile. All it takes is $240 to provide a life-changing surgery to a little one and brighten the prospects for their life.

In addition to making a deeply meaningful gift to children and the good vibe this will engender, the person casting the most votes will also receive their favorite image in the gallery in the form of a 30" signed original fine art edition.

Operation Smile provides free life changing surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities for children around the globe.

I am grateful for all the synchronicity, serendipity, learning opportunities, "sharp sticks" I experience. I am honored by those who consider me a true friend. I am especially thankful for my family.

Why? Why not? It helps. One feels good. People smile (and without me ever having to say Ch**$#!).

Work created by Christian Heurich will be appearing in the upcoming exhibit The Eye and The Touch: The Best Local Art of 2009 at the Washington County Arts Council in Hagerstown. Two fine art images have been accepted by the jury for inclusion. The images are "Riders In The Rain", which has also been selected as a notable entry by the jurors and "In The Garden". The images were created on travels to China and Mexico, respectively. The exhibit opens Thursday December 3rd and runs through to January 2, 2010. Meet participating artists at an Opening Reception to be held Saturday December 5th from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Arts Council, 14 West Washington Street.

Chris Heurich is based in Washington County, Maryland and was born in the District of Columbia. Chris is the creative spark, managing member and principal photographer of Heurich Photography. In addition to envisioning original creative imagery, Chris provides positive experiences and professional results for portrait and commercial clients. He loves travel, working on location locally and globally. “Traveling presents many opportunities to create evocative images and share experiences with people.” Kodak has recognized Chris' professional excellence with a Kodak Gallery Award. Heurich Photography supports local, national and international charitable causes. Chris strives to continually improve and use his abilities and gifts in worthwhile ways to help make people's lives better.

His current project is publishing a hard-bound coffee table art book of original children's portraits created by Chris of everyday kids, newborn through 17 years of age, entitled "Kids of the Mid-Atlantic, portraits of a generation". Proceeds from the participation fees and sale of the book benefit Make-A-Wish® Foundation Mid-Atlantic, Inc..

As well as the work of the other artists in the exhibit, Chris' images will be available for purchase at the Arts Council for display in homes and offices.
